Welcome

This collection of daily devotionals is small and minute thoughts, poems, stories, experiences, and prayers in my life or my children's lives, maybe you could say just “scents of the Spirit” that God sent my way. These devotionals could be an accent or grammatical mark that is needed in your life. My prayer is that through reading these God will breathe on you his scent. and you will bud and bring forth limbs like a plant. I pray that through the daily reading and studying of His word you will come to know Jesus in a more intimate way. He is no respecter of persons and desires for you to know him in an intimate and profound way. It is you that he loved. It is you that he gave his life for. Take time daily to allow him to speak to you as he has spoken to me for so many years. How he grieves for your fellowship.

SLUG BUG!!

Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee. Ps 119:11

While in Panama my friends played a game. This game is a game that never ended and started over every day. The game requires that you are very observant of a particular kind of car, a Volkswagen beetle. This game is a family tradition with them and they have been doing it for quite some time. The way the game goes is that every time you see one you yell out loud SLUG BUG. There are not many of these type of cars in Panama City so you really had to be on your toes to see one and then to beat the others in saying it out loud. At the end of the day whoever had the most won the game. No prizes just the fact that you got to say you won. I have to say I was terrible at the game. The whole time I was there I never saw one until someone would yell slug bug then point it out to me. They had so trained themselves to be aware of this type car that it truly amazed me. There was rarely a day when we did not hear SLUG BUG from someone.

Think about this, if we trained ourselves to be that aware of sin in our lives what grand Christians we would be. How do we train ourselves to be that way? The bible says to hide the word in our heart that we might not sin against God. When we hide that word in our heart the Holy Spirit makes us aware of the sin in our lives but the Holy Spirit does not yell….SIN…. it whispers sin. We must begin to train our hearing so that when we hear that whisper we immediately repent, just like they had trained their eyes that every time they saw that car they would yell SLUG BUG. Let’s begin today listening to that whisper in our hearts. Maybe even make it a habit that when you hear that whisper in your heart say out loud with your mouth, SIN then at the end of the day reflect back over the day and see how many times you had to say the word. The winner of this game would always be you. I believe that if we become more aware of sin in our lives the more we will endeavor to improve our behavior and at the end of the day not have so many slug bugs in our life. Maybe you could even do it as a group game among friends and family. How careful would you be if you knew your friends and family were watching you just waiting for the chance to yell SIN in your life? Sin is so commonplace and acceptable in our lives and the lives of those we say we love that we rarely notice it. We have become desensitized to it.

My challenge to you is to play SLUG BUG (that will be the code name for SIN) first with yourself and then get a group of friends you trust. I can promise that not only will you become more aware of the sin in your life but your behavior will change as well. Wouldn’t it be nice to reflect back on your day and realize that there had not been one single slug bug?

About Me

My Photo
Becky
Macon, MS., United States
I was born and raised in Mississippi and it’s where I live today with my husband of 26 years, Mike. The Lord blessed us with three beautiful children, Lesley, Sarah and Shannon. Accepting the role of caretaker, I moved into my parents’ home to care for my mother, who suffers with cancer, and my father, a great man of faith in Jesus Christ, who recently passed away after his long battle with Alzheimer’s. Loss is, unfortunately, no stranger to me. I was 29 when, my sister and best friend passed away from heart complications at the ripe age of 28. I am comforted knowing they are both reunited with our heavenly father in Heaven. Through my 51 years, I have experienced most of what the world has to offer and found my peace, joy and hope in Christ alone. I have worked as a software trainer for 12 years, but my true passion is loving people. My burden for souls is unquenchable. I maintain an unyielding stance against phariseeism. I am an outgoing, opinionated, intuitive, generous, passionate, forgiving free spirit, who loves the Lord above all else. While reading my blog it is my desire that you experience the Presence of Almighty God.
